Grandmaster Chen, Liverpool, 2010

Grandmaster Chen Xiao Wang will deliver a series of seminars from Friday June 11th thru Tuesday June 15th in Liverpool.

The seminar series is organised by Master Kam Lau of Kam Lau Tai Chuan School. Grandmaster Chen’s Liverpool seminars celebrate their 14th anniversary this July. This year, Grandmaster Chen’s series includes workshops in:

Yi Jin Jing – also called Yin Yang Qi Gong, these muscle & tendon stretching exercises are historically attributed to Bodhidarma, a monk and pivotal figure who lived about 1,400 years ago.

Chen 19 – developed by Grandmaster Chen, this workshop presents a rare opportunity to practise the form with the master who literally wrote the script for it. In addition to exploring the form, Grandmaster Chen will demonstrate martial applications.

Chan Si Gong – also known as “silk reeling”, and including standing postures, Grandmaster Chen will oversee a workshop dealing with the basic principles of movement.

Push Hands – Grandmaster Chen will work through the fundamentals of relaxation, structure, awareness and listening energy.

Chen Sword – restricted to existing students of Grandmaster Chen or Master Kam Lau.

According to Kam, the relaxed and professional teaching method of Grandmaster Chen suits both beginners and experienced students alike. Kam says, “the essence is to provide a sound base from which your Taijiquan can develop. Members and instructors of other martial arts schools are welcome”.

At the seminars, Grandmaster Chen Xiao Wang will also be signing copies of his new book, Chen Family Taijiquan.  The book, not available at book stores or online, features over 300 pages of full colour photography, and includes a complete authoritative history of the birth and development Chen Taijiquan, together with examples of Grandmaster Chen’s calligraphy. In his book, Grandmaster Chen also discusses fundamentals of the internal art, including silk reeling, etc. According to Kam, proceeds from the sale of this book over and above publication and distribution costs are devoted to the worthwhile Chen Village Restoration fund.
